16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM IN BOSNIAN-HERZEGOVINIAN
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS

In 2018 TPO Foundation continued 16 Days of Activism Campaign Against Gender-Based Violence under the same motto from 2017 AWAKEN, MOVE, CHANGE with the project Peer and Gender-based Violence. Teachers and pedagogues from 45 schools from five cantons of BiH gathered over 3000 students and parents through a variety of activities. Collaboration with ministries of education from Sarajevo, Mostar and Travnik who have been working on violence prevention was particularly important.
This year the network of schools was also broadened. Thanks to their hard-working staff, some schools organized a large number of activities, with Primary School Ilija Jakovljević Mostar with pedagogue Andrea Jevrić organizing as many as ten different activities for the campaign.
The main goal of the school campaign was to raise awareness among students, schools and parents on factors that contribute to gender- and peer-based violence, but also to teach them how to resolve these problems at home and in school.
Under the moto Children are Our Mirror, teachers and parents got an opportunity to look into the mirrors of their students' and children's work and messages. TPO Foundation is grateful to all the schools and partners that collaborated with them, and specifically emphasize the contribution of the following colleagues: teacher Alma Ahmethodžić, teacher Sedžida Hadžić, psychologist and therapist Berminka Hrelja-Bećirspahić, school counselor Izet Numanović, teacher Munevera Hrbat-Rahmanović, teacher Amela Petričević, teacher Semir Salihović, professor Emina Jusufbegović, pedagogue Andreja Pehar, pedagogue Edna Haznadarević, psyschologist Snježana Petraš, pedagogue Šejla Džanan and other associates.
Together with their students, they told stories of humanness, empathy and support for children who suffer from violence at home and in school. They showed that is possible to change the ethos of schools if we are brave enough to look into mirror of those we are raising and educating – our children.
